Chief Scientist

Ann Howard’s role as Chief Scientist is to provide research to support evidence-based talent management. She investigates the effectiveness and organizational impact of DDI interventions and provides thought leadership around talent management and trends in the workplace.  

As the head of DDI’s Center for Applied Behavioral Research (CABER), she guides investigative surveys that provide new knowledge and data about global trends in leadership development, selection, and othertalent management issues and allow organizations to benchmark their workplace practices against local and global norms. She also oversees research with individual DDI clients, helping them to measure the effectiveness of their talent management practices and link them with organizational performance.  A 30-year veteran to the industrial and organizational psychology profession, Ann brings a significant cadre of professional experience to this role, including special expertise in assessment centers and managerial careers.

After joining DDI as a senior consultant in 1994, Ann became the manager of DDI’s Assessment Technology Integrity in 1997. Prior to her work at DDI, she was the president of the Leadership Research Institute, a non-profit organization she co-founded in 1987, and at AT&T for the preceding 12 years, directing two longitudinal studies of managers.  
 
Ann is a past president of the Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology (SIOP) and the Society of Psychologists in Management and is currently vice president of the Board of Trustees for the SIOP Foundation. 
 
She is the author of more than 90 book chapters and papers on topics such as assessment centers, management selection, managerial careers, and leadership, many of which have been published in industry, academic and business journals. 
 
Her Ph.D. in industrial psychology is from the University of Maryland. Ann also received an MS in industrial psychology from San Francisco State University and a BA in psychology from Goucher College in Baltimore, Maryland.
