Roche Diagnostics Puerto Rico

Need:

Roche Diagnostics wanted to transform its 180-employee facility in Ponce, Puerto Rico, into a high-performance organization, increase productivity without growing employee headcount, strengthen employee engagement and commitment, and position Roche Diagnostics as an employer of choice in Puerto Rico.

Solution:

Roche partnered with DDI to assemble a comprehensive leadership development program based on the company's vision, values, and business strategies. A cross section of 50 leaders, non-hourly employees, and high performers from several functional areas of the Ponce facility piloted the program. The program included four courses from Interaction Management® and one from Techniques for a High-Performance Workforce®—all sharing a competency base and common concepts, including DDI's Interaction Guidelines and Key Principles. To encourage leaders to continue to apply the new skills, success stories from leaders are posted prominently in the Ponce facility. Roche Diagnostics' senior leadership is also highly visible in supporting the program.

Results:

A survey conducted three months after leaders had completed the program found that virtually all leaders (97 percent) found the training to be valuable and applicable to their jobs. Due in part to the leadership development initiative, Roche Diagnostics Puerto Rico was selected Number 1 on a list of the "20 Best Employers in Puerto Rico" compiled by El Nueva Dia, a leading Puerto Rico newspaper.
