Richard S. Wellins, Ph.D.

Rich Wellins is a DDI Senior Vice President.  Rich is responsible for launching DDI’s new products and services, leading DDI’s Center for Analytics and Behavioral Research (CABER) and its major research projects and developing, and executing DDI’s global marketing strategy. Rich has spearheaded DDI’s bi-annual research on best practices in leadership development and talent acquisition on a global scale.

An expert on leadership development, employee engagement and talent management, Rich has written for more than 40 publications and published six books, including Empowered TeamsInside Teams and Reengineering’s Missing Ingredient. He has made over 100 presentations at numerous professional conferences around the world and is a judge for CNBC’s Asian Business Leader’s Award.

Career Highlights

  • Chair of the American Society for Training and Development (ASTD) International Conference and Exposition, 2008.
  • Serves as a judge for CNBC’s Asian Business Leaders Award.
  • Works with numerous clients including Nissan, Infosys, COFCO and Sunrise Health.
  • Initiation of DDI’s workforce expansion capabilities, introduction of the leading team-based training program, and spearheading the formation and rapid growth of DDI’s global account program and launching an award-winning integrated knowledge management system.
  • Before he joined DDI, Rich served as senior research psychologist at the U.S. Army Research Institute and as an assistant professor at Western Connecticut State University in Danbury.
  • Rich joined DDI in 1981 as marketing manager. Since then he has served as vice president for DDI’s Southern Region, senior vice president of research and product development, and head of global accounts.

  • Doctorate in Social/Industrial Psychology from American University in Washington, D.C.
