SA Water - who took to the stage with a loud round of applause from the audience.
DDI is pleased to sponsor for the 3rd consecutive year, the Human Capital Management award which recognises and supports organisations who put a focus on talent management within their organisations for enhanced performance to achieve business strategy and sustainability.
SA Water is wholly owned by the Government of South Australia and provides water and wastewater services to approximately 1.5 million people across the State. On behalf of the community, SA Water owns, operates and maintains more than $9 billion worth of assets. SA Water's core business is to deliver drinking water, recycled water and wastewater services using assets owned and operated by the organisation. SA Water recently celebrated 150 years of operation and the organisation balances this proud tradition with a focus on driving a culture of innovation, quality and flexibility.
In 2007, the most significant issue facing SA Water was the availability and competition for skilled staff. SA Water's demographic profile was out of sync with other technical organisations and in comparison to the general utility supply industry in Australia. SA Water faced an ageing workforce with significant numbers of our specialist and core business skilled workers due to retire in the following five to ten years. At this time, almost one in every five employees was over the age of 55 years and SA Water had no clear strategy to address this issue. They faced significant risk as their experienced workforce walked out the door. In order to address this critical human capital issue, SA Water developed a strategic and clearly defined Workforce Replenishment strategy. The Workforce Replenishment Strategy mapped the resourcing and transitioning requirements for replenishing the core workforce over the next five year period.
