Nigel Phang

General Manager, Beijing

Nigel has over 20 years experience in the field of selection and people management. As a trained Industrial Psychologist, he has worked with businesses of various sizes to assess and implement integrated talent management programs.

Prior to joining DDI, Nigel was a Human Resource Director of a local government agency, Talent Management VP of a financial institution, Global Organization Development Director of a high tech manufacturing firm, Senior Consultant of a US based consulting firm, and an Air Force Field Psychologist in the Ministry of Defence. He consulted extensively with several large multinational corporations as well as domestic companies on talent selection and development.

Key Capabilities and Experience

Nigel has extensive experience in developing and implementing talent management solutions. He specializes in integrated HR solutions including alignment of talent management programs with business strategy, transformation of HR department, defining talent policies and monitoring talent retention.

Some of Nigel’s work experiences include the following:

  • Restructured and staff the human resources department of a government agency to align with the organization’s mission. Transformed the agency’s HR service delivery model to support the organization’s international customer service delivery network. Talent retention and engagement showed overall improvement after implementing organization wide talent management programs such as salary review, identification and development of talent, executive coaching and effective manpower planning.
  • Led the entire end-to-end people and culture integration process when the bank acquired another financial institution. In-charge of the formation of merger task forces, establish selection panel for leadership positions, integrate people and pay policies, monitor staff engagement, partner with senior leaders in staff communication and executed organization wide staff redundancy exercise.
  • Worked with a high tech multinational company to deliver greater efficiency by integrating design team and manufacturing plants. This was achieved with building of global teamwork, deployment of six sigma initiative and performance management programs.

Nigel presents regularly at industry conferences and Community of Practice. Effective trilingual in English, Mandarin and Cantonese.
