With the increased emphasis on HR analytics and metrics, it’s easy to lose sight of the far more profound reasons DDI associates and clients do what they do every day. Spark, a forthcoming book, is a collection of dozens of stories we have received of lives transformed through DDI training. In reviewing the submissions, which came from all around the world, we were impressed and often touched by the ways in which a DDI training experience sparked a change for each person—not just at work, but in their personal lives as well. Below are excerpts from stories that will be featured in the book.
“About six months ago, an ex-colleague of mine reached me through e-mail after more than 20 years without any communication. He now lives in France and I live in Canada . . . He indicated that he was coming to visit soon and that he would very much like to meet me again for dinner. . . During dinner, among other topics discussed, he wanted to thank me for the difference I made in his professional life. WOW! I asked him to say more, as I did not realize that before, and he finally mentioned the major impact Interaction Management® had on his personal and professional lives: how he learned to listen better, to demonstrate empathy without taking it all on his shoulders, to ask people for solutions as opposed to telling them what to do, etc. . . Who would have thought that 20-plus years later, I was going to receive such a gift! To know that you made a difference (positive!!) in someone's life is such a great feeling!”
“My personal life had been less than satisfying in that I didn't have any long-lasting relationships, and things weren't that wonderful. Then came DDI Key Principles! . . . My partner and I have been together for nearly twenty years very happily, and using Key Principles (now subconsciously) has led to a wonderful, compassionate relationship. Professionally, my career has prospered. Maintaining and enhancing self-esteem and listening and responding with empathy, asking for help and encouraging involvement has made this impatient Virgo a great people leader and a respected change manager. I now have a very satisfying international career that crosses many cultural boundaries successfully. ...Thank you DDI for my wonderful life.”
“One of the nicest compliments that I ever received as a facilitator was at the conclusion of an Essentials of Leadership course. On the written evaluation sheets, one participant had written, ‘Thank you! You saved my marriage!’ Later I checked back with the participant that I (correctly) thought to be the source of the comment. She told me that she realized during the course that the Principles of Leadership could be applied to her marriage, and was convinced that positive leadership and the proper application of these Principles could pull her marriage back from the brink of divorce.”
Spark will be released in the spring of 2012. Watch our website for information on how to get a copy.
