Leaders need to see themselves as the life-preservers of innovation. For this to happen, innovation must be grass-roots, creative, and uninhibited. Yet, organizations have to provide some structure and that structure starts with leadership, but not in the way we typically think about it.

Are Leaders Drowning Innovation?: Leaders are the life-preservers of innovation. They must promote a grass-roots culture of creativity focused on the “little” ideas.
