Desmond Tan

Desmond has extensive experience in human resources and organizational development, both in the United States and around Asia. His career choices have seen him move between consulting and several senior leadership roles for talent management in MNCs across multiple industries. In 2015, he returned to DDI Singapore as Consulting Director, and is now responsible for the growth and management of DDI Singapore’s consulting team.

His expertise encompasses the design and implementation of assessment and development centers, change and talent management processes, organizational development interventions, as well as capability building and development strategies. Desmond’s consulting experience spans across industries including pharmaceuticals, logistics, heavy industries, finance (banking & insurance), manufacturing, shipping, logistics, information technology, oil & gas, and telecommunications.

Career Highlights

  • Held several organizational development and talent management senior leadership roles in various MNCs, including a global role overseeing global talent development for a blue chip oil and gas services company.
  • Provided consulting advice on a wide range of human resource initiatives ranging from change management, organizational development and design, succession planning, talent acquisition and workforce planning, talent management, competency assessment, training and development programs across all organizational levels, including the design of succession management frameworks.
  • Worked with senior leaders from various organizations to drive leadership excellence and peak performance as an executive coach.
  • Participated in the Conference Board’s Research Working Group (RWG) on developing and retaining high potential talent in Asia (2012/2013) and contributed his insights as a subject matter expert on high potential development in the book “Talented South East Asia: Business Success Through Talent Management Excellence” (Vorhhauser-Smith & Cariss, 2014).
