Country Manager, DDI Brazil

Neil Suchman

Neil Suchman manages the DDI Brazil operations. With nearly 20 years of experience in human performance, he has implemented human resource management and organizational change initiatives for many companies in Latin America. Neil has consulted extensively with Honda, DaimlerChrysler, Merck Sharp & Dohme (MSD), Danone, Avon, SAP, and other multinational clients. He also has spoken at several industry conferences in Mexico, Central America, and Brazil.

Neil’s biculturalism and proficiency in Spanish, English, and Portuguese enable him to understand and interact with multinational clients that have operations in Latin America.

Current Responsibilities

Neil’s responsibilities include:

  • Promoting, selling, and delivering organizational change, assessment and selection, training and development, and succession management programs and services throughout Brazil.
  • Managing multinational client accounts with operations in Brazil.
  • Managing the growth and profitability of DDI’s Brazilian operations.

  • Global M.B.A., Thunderbird and ITESM joint degree
  • B.A. in communication studies, University of California at Santa Barbara
  • DDI-certified master trainer in IM: EX® and Targeted Selection®

Key Capabilities and Experience

Neil has extensive experience in managing large and complex organizational change projects that include sales force performance improvement, plant start-ups, and high-performance teams. He has worked in a wide variety of sectors, including automotive manufacturing and the pharmaceutical industry.

His recent projects include:

  • November 2009–February 2010. Helped manage the integration of the MSD/Schering-Plough Brazilian merger and acquisition by overseeing the assessment of 132 sales and marketing leaders. This was a high-priority initiative due to the strategic importance of Brazil as part of the newly formed Emerging Market division of MSD.
  • April–October 2007. Managed the executive assessment project for Coca-Cola FEMSA, Mercosul. Using simulations, interviews, and personality tests, Neil assessed all the top directors to identify their talent and development needs. Those development areas were then linked to their main business drivers.
  • June 1997–May 2000. Managed the implementation of the self-directed teams at five DaimlerChrysler plants in Mexico. This organizational change initiative was accomplished by creating the strategic direction, diagnosing the readiness for teams, assessing and training the leaders, selecting and training the team leaders, and training the team members. One of the main business drivers was the successful launch of the PT Cruiser.
  • October 1995–December 1996. Served as on-site project manager for the General Motors plant start-up in Silao, Mexico. Neil managed the selection, assessment, and training of team members and leaders. He was in charge of 22 people who tracked 10,000 applicants, assessed 2,000 candidates, and then hired 1,200 employees to meet GM’s target of having a full staff within 12 months. He also coordinated the design and implementation of the 120 self-directed teams.

Neil has won numerous awards, including DDI’s Consultant of the Year Award for the Latin American region and VIP Award for exceeding his sales objectives.
